Film Explorations: Summer 2026
The following is a selection of my favorite film images from this summer…
Conventional Color Films:
Kodak UltraMax 400

Non-Conventional, Creative Films:
Rollei Infrared 400
Harmon Azure 125
The Rollei Infrared 400 film was a direct attempt to create a false Color Infrared (CIR) image. While not completely perfect, as a first attempt I am extremely satisfied in how these turned out.
The process, roughly, entails:
Shooting each image three times
One image through a NIR filter, one through a red filter, and one through a green filter
All three composite images are then imported to photoshop as layers then….
The NIR image is assigned to the red channel
The red image is assigned to the green channel
The green image is assigned to the blue channel
Then all layers are aligned
The following three “layer” images should then show bright red where infrared light is either reflected, thus highlighting plants and foliage in bright red.
I definitely did not anticipate how dark my NIR filter was and that I would need to dramatically make my shutter speed longer (meaning that the first images needed a much wider aperture to compensate), but as a first attempt this gave me plenty of valuable experience to work off of for next time…
